"there’s a balance owed on the job . They do not think there is due to some issues with the cabinets. I was willing to correct the issues but they became unreasonable! My best advice is for you to leave the granite and be done with it. I’m done with trying to please them! Give them their granite and be done. "
Lets parse this litle text from Rich to the Granite guy.
"there’s a balance owed on the job . A flat out bald faced lie.
We paid Rich every penny he asked for and he did not ask us for more or ever tell us there was more money owed. Rich charged us $7,800 for the granite fabrication and install (we bought the granite ourselves). We found that Rich was to pay his Granite guy $3,200 putting the rest in his pocket. Rich chose to keep all of it rather than paying his Granite Guy. Rich's subs - He lies to you and in my opinion cheats you.
"They do not think there is due to some issues with the cabinets. I was willing to correct the issues but they became unreasonable!" - . A flat out bald faced lie.
Rich agreed with us that his cabinet guy delivered garbage.
Here's my text communication with Rich about this which included my attempt at a resolution:
"I am coming up with a definition of "fixed" and "finished" for John to look at.
It will not be a small amount of rework and basically means new fronts, new drawers, and new faces on the cabinet boxes
Assuming the boxes are salvageable as installed. He can't just disappear for a month and show up with what he thinks is the final product. I want to see a completed drawer and cabinet front. If we agree that is what I want quality and construction wise we can proceed with the production of the rest.
I don't expect perfection. I don't expect him to have a $100,000 CNC setup. I do expect square edges, 90degree corners, and same lengths and widths throughout.
I expect the drawers to say shut, be straight, line up vertically and horizontally with the others, be square and have the same dimensions.
On the trust issue I need to be convinced he can make what I want and that he will do it. We will need to discuss some sort of way for him to get back into the game financially. I am thinking a refund to us of $6000 payable back to him when he is done. Basically a 1/2 up front and 1/2 on completion deal we probably needed in the first place. We need to define what "completed" means and agree to go to binding arbitration if we just can't agree that the terms have been met.
That's kind of the framework I'm thinking for this."
Here is Rich's response:
"I feel like that is a fair proposition and really appreciate your willingness!!! I will run it past him. I believe that will work. He can do the job as you want. Now it’s time for his work to speak a different language. I’ll give you his feedback.
This could very well be a fresh start for him! If he leaves this on me there will be repercussions!"
We never heard from Rich again. No discussions and no offer to correct the problems was ever communicated to us.
Rich Lohoefer - Liar Liar Pants on Fire.
P.S. We were told the same story by the Electrician and Plumber. Rich hadn't fully paid him and told him the same lie.
Look at Rich's History. Rich doesn't know what he is doing and when it goes south he blames everybody else.
